Having the same problem after a fresh install of 10.10 on a new computer. In gnome-appearance-properties, the theme is right (ambience), but in the rest the theme is the Gtk standard theme (a.k.a. the flat ugly one). Starting gnome-appearance-properties only prints the following: (gnome-appearance
