Guess what, I am not only not going to assign the bug to me, I am even going to
close it Wow, can you believe it?
Closing as per upstream comments => fixed via KDE 4.4's phonon (backends)
** Package changed: amarok (Ubuntu) => phonon-backends (Ubuntu)
** Changed in: phonon-backends (Ubuntu)
Bug is still present... yet unassigned after being logged back in 2009?? Wow.
Rhythmbox may lack some of the cool Amarok features, but being able to play a
playlist is baseline for requirements.
Is there any hope this issue will be fixed in Amarok?

heya,
I experienced this same problem.
After some searching, I suspect it may be related to this upstream bug:

I found a different solution for me. I had my files stored on a Volume
that was not mounted all the time. When Amarok was started before the
volume was mounted, apparently some component figured out that all the
files from the library were gone and emptied my library. This did not
affect the playli

For me Amarok has worked fine on 32-bit ubuntu 9.10 with xine backend,
but now it suddenly only plays one song from the playlist before
stopping. Amarok version (2.2.0) has not been changed, although I did
update some packages yesterday.

The current amarok packages build its own version of mysql (5.1.30)
since in Kubuntu 9.04, MySQL 5.1 wasn't mature enough to become the

I just remembered that I'm having a problem with mysql-server-5.0 in
which the install won't complete due to libhtml-template-perl; therefore
mysqld wont load. I still filed the bug because it seems as though
amarok no longer uses mysql by default.
