Using Ubuntu 10.04 Beta, I can successfully see the contacts, but any
edits (delete, new, change a contact) result in authentication errors.
Note the password is definitely right -- the contacts do show up. Any
ideas here?

It started working today again with no apparent reason. This is not an
Evolution bug. It was something at the google servers.

Sorry guys, same issue here, and it's been bugging me for the past few
days:
Error loading address book.
This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI
was entered, or the server is unreachable.
Detailed error message: Other error
The debug log does not mean much to
just confirming this case, went to sync with google contacts and I got
the error, ubuntu 8.10 and I went to the keyring and double checked I am
100% certain I have the correct credentials. I tried with and without
ssl.

nope just changed my password to something with only lower upper case
and numbers and it still doesn't work for contacts or calendars, maybe
my problem is different and I need to file a different bug? but my error
is the same. What else can I try?

well my password was not typed incorrectly and I still get the error
message however I do have a " in my password, could that little devil
cause the problem for me and if so then it means it isn't sending
passwords proper or something, the password works with all kinds of
other things that access g
I've got the same problem. The synchronisation worked for some time, but
doesn't anymore. Here's a bit of debug output from when i tried updating
the address book:

Sorry for the spam related to this bug, I've the latest version of
Ubuntu and I have the same error whilst adding a google address book in
Evolution Mail. I added the correct password and the correct user
(without @gmail), hit the ssl box, and I still get the initial error
which was posted here...
Has has bben fixed upstream for Evolution 2.27.5+, so it's already in
Ubuntu 9.10. Closing the bug.

As i understand Gmail contacts plugin do not provides password prompt if
authentication fails.
So if you often change your password for Gmail you'll face this problem again
and again.
