FYI - Following your advice, I removed the CD-Rom from the sources.list (which
even though is the active CD ROM drive, and it does work).
I then upgraded to 9.04 kubuntu and the installation completed ok, however when
i rebooted i was not able to login to KDE. I managed to logon to

It seems like there is a leftover cdrom source that is no longer
accessable. Could you please remove the cdrom source from your
sources.list file (e.g. via software-properties-kde or software-
properties-gtk) and try again?
