I get a similar error when I try to use KDENlive.
If I run the program from a command line as sudo then I can connect to
the camera. When I do this, however, the capture crashes after it is
initialized and starts. This also happens with my webcam, though, and
was also an issue with the webcam be
'ffplay -f dv ... some.avi' is incorrect because '-f dv' specifies raw
dv, and this is an AVI.
You can try to test this with 'dvgrab - | ffplay -f dv pipe:'

Works fine here with Jaunty and ffplay (FFmpeg) compiled from source. So
it must be something related to Ubuntu's ffplay / ffmpeg version...
Is it possible to change ffplay in jaunty ? it seems to be the
trouble...
