I do not believe that this is a duplicate of bug 435805 because the
behavior seems different. It is possible that they are related, but
until we can truely identify the problem in either report, I can't say
that this is a duplicate.

im having the same problem on ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 kk its the same
on three different laptops asus eee pc 1000ha,two different hp models
not sure witch number they are installs i did for friends lol still

I haven't been able to reproduce this with Karmic.
There were two bugs here:
1. The old launcher didn't always free the old iconviews, hence they
stuck around. This was fixed in the Jaunty cycle
2. The intel video drivers have a bug in which this issue occurs. This

Not with Karmic but I updated my intel drivers from the X Updates PPA
and my kernel to 2.6.30. This fixes several other slowdowns and
graphical glitches I had. On this bug it significantly reduced the
frequency of occurrence. However, if the machine is under a heavier load
and I use the menu I stil

This issue occurs frequently on many of the menus for me on my Fujitsu
U810. When this happens the computer starts to slow down and if not
immediately reset it tends to hang requiring me to resort to the SysRq
key.
