It's still a problem on Precise, even with the raring kernel.

Reopening, I just had that problem in a new Lucid lab with sis191 cards.
Forcing mtu to 1492 did indeed work around the problem, but of course a proper
solution is needed.

This bug is still present in lucid ...
Changing the MTU fixes the issue but it would be better if the SIS 191 would
work with a fresh install of Ubuntu, without changing any stuff, especially for
those who are discovering the system.
So, can anybody please tell us if this issue will be fixed in
Got bitten by the same error and draoi99 and other suggrestions about
changing MTU is working. Good that is kinda very easy to do, but it
would be good to get this fixed in Lucid.

Just a follow up here. Things seem to be working fine on ASUS N70sv

bug in 9.04 with earlier kernals.

Hi, I was posting this question in:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7928084#post7928084
A guy named QIII helped me find this thread. Now, it's working.
I just edited my eth0 by setting MTU to 1492 under:
Linux lgv 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18 19:25:34 UTC 2009 x86_64

I just thought I would post an update on this issue. On 9.04 64bit I
have determined that the wired connection works randomly. If I start up
the computer many times the connection is not enabled and attempting to
enable it will not work. However, if I logout multiple times, just
logout over and
Just did a reinstall of Ubuntu using 9.04 i386. At first the problem
was fixed, but then I did all the needed updates and after a reboot the
ethernet again stopped working. I tried changing MTU to 1492 and 1500,
no worky.

The latest kernel does not seem to fix the problem for me. I am on an
ASUS n70sv with the same graphics card.
Ubuntu 9.04 64bit (fresh install)
uname -r
2.6.28-15-generic
sudo lshw -class LAN ...attached
Changing MTU to anything other than automatic does not seem to help.
If there is anything
Doesn't seem to fix my problem with the sis 191, (bad packages if size
is 1500)
(Ubuntu 9.04)
`uname -r`

`sudo lshw -class LAN`

workaround change MTU to 1492
`sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492`
can also be set with the network manager to make it a permanent workaro
Fixed with the 2.6.28-11.36 kernel, now the ethernet card works fine.
