In 9.10 if you go to alsamixer in terminal and turn the mics all the way
up.
Then go to sound settings and select mic 2. For some reason mic one is
set on default. After that sound recorder works like a charm

Hello I have updated my alsa to 1.0.20, and changed the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base(.conf) file as said. My microphone worked for a bit
and then stopped working. It picks up sound I can hear it but it does not

i managed to get my mic working with skype etc. I had to update my alsa
to 1.0.20. UNR 9.04 is using 1.0.18rc3

Hi,
as I already wrote on Bug 312403 (which btw might be a duplicate of this
one) I put
options snd-hda-intel model=basic
into the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base(.conf)
and now the internal microphone works great.

Oh, yeah. Volume control does control the volume, boosts of both
microphones, but all audio is only routed to the speakers(builtin or
output jack).

Both mics are not working. Even though 8.10 worked for me with external
mic. Same H/W configuration. Default software config.

Similar issue here on Lenovo S10E, using Kubuntu 8.10. Skype etc dooes
work without problems - but trying to record with VLC or any other
software did not.

Hi there,
I too have the Lenovo Ideapad S10 and the same issue.
I can hear the mic input through the speakers but neither gnome-sound-recorder
or Skype are able to use the mic.
I tried Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 all updated etc ... and there was no
difference.
This is whats in /etc/modprobe.d/
If you cannot record audio with gnome-sound-recorder and audacity it
looks like a driver problem. So I change the affected package from
audacity to linux.
