Hi there, I too have the Lenovo Ideapad S10 and the same issue. I can hear the mic input through the speakers but neither gnome-sound-recorder or Skype are able to use the mic. I tried Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 all updated etc ... and there was no difference.
