I can confirm both bugs, although they're both (easily) fixable.
Ubuntu Edgy Eft - Preferences -> Sessions -> Startup;
Select correct keyboard mapping:
setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout no -variant basic
Make sure you select the proper layout for your keyboard - mine is "no"
'cause I'm Norwegian.
Forgot to mention; the two lines mentioned above must be added as
separate entries in the Startup-section of Sessions..
Wouldn't it be nice to have a "edit post" feature here..? :-P

Did anyone use xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.us?
Executing that before GNOME finishes loading _will_ lead to the
mismatched keyboard layout message.
The correct way to disable SHIFT+Backspace is: xmodmap -e "keycode 22 =
BackSpace"

When I first started GNOME on xgl I was offered an option as to whether
I wanted to use the GNOME keyboard settings or the X keyboard settings.
I went with the X settings and wound up with US keybindings. Given that
this choice is not offered on a normal xorg I think I'm going to go

Pressing Shift+Backspace crashes XGL for me, bringing me back to the login
