and no i am not running compiz because of the above issues. I used to
run compiz on hardy and eft, i did not face any issues with it on the

well, all this works when the desktop manager is working as expected -
which more often than not, it doesnt. I have added xfdesktop in the auto
start applications, but still it doesn't work,
there is no wallpaper display, I have to add it everytime - explicitly.

No, it should not be the xorg.conf. However, try Applications ->
Settings -> Settings Manager -> Desktop; checking "Show desktop menu on
right click" under the Behavior tab. Please comment below whether or not
this works. Also, are you running Compiz?

does it have anything to do with my xorg.conf ? I havent modified it,
but my display driver is set to the proprietay ati fglrx drivers (
automatically installed the proprietary ati drivers ). When playing
around with compiz on herdy and eft, it occured to me that resotring
this file set my displa
