Hi all,
I have the same problem, but the freezing is certainly not random.
It freezes when the program guide is changing program.
Maybe this helps to solve this bug.
Cheers,

OK, I did it. Looks like the same before:
sudo dpkg -l | grep nvidia

Prior to the reboot, reinstall all of them. It won't affect their
configuration. I have done this myself many times. So change your second
step to add those three to the install.

Ah... I bet this is at least part of your issue. You have several

OK, this is what I did:
1.) I disabled the following three settings of nvidia-settings and wrote the
result into a new xorg.conf.
X Server XVideo Settings -> Video Texture Adaptor -> Sync to VBlank
X Server XVideo Settings -> Video Blitter Adaptor -> Sync to VBlank
OpenGL Settings -> Performance
Use nvidia-settings

No, I did not reverse the changes "with no effect". All three changes were in
at the same time. In other words the UseEvents option of xorg.conf was enabled
at the same time as Use OpenGL vsync was disabled in mythtv.
But for now I will reverse the changes, especially the playback profile,

Have you been reversing the changes when they "have no effect" each time, or
leaving them in?
The UseEvents and disabling VSync are normally used together. If you haven't
done so already, try both at the same time.

Sorry but I have to tell that the option UseEvents has no effect on the
issue of freezing tv randomly.
A little summery to easy the next steps:
1.) Disabling the "Use Opengl vsync" option has no effect.
2.) Setting the tv playback profile to cpu-- has no effect.
3.) Setting the UseEvents option in
Thank you Nick Fox. I will try to aktivate the UseEvents option in the
xorg.conf and report the result.

Have you set UseEvents "True" in your Xorg? This is a common issue wth many
nvidia chipsets, and the UseEvents option usually fixes it right up.

Sorry, but changing the playback profile to CPU-- didn't solve the

Hello MarcRandolph,
I read the thread and cannot see a direct association to "my" issue.
(It is not only my issue, Jean-Yves Avenard "suffers" too.)
But I give it a try and disable "Use Opengl vsync" in mythtv.
We will see if this will help. I will report the result.
thx for your help

Hello, Have you tried disabling "Use OpenGL vsync"?
Here is a discussion of possible associated problems (both OpenGL and not):
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/dev/272433
Please report back if any of these ideas help to resolve your issue.

"Use OpenGL vsync" is enabled in mythtv.
I'm using the recommended propriatery nvidia driver (version 180).
$ lsmod | grep nvidia

This is often a problem related to the video mode and/or drivers. Do
you have OpenGL sync enabled or disabled, and what video drivers are you
using?
