I'm going to have to agree with sleon's comment that -11 does fix the
powernowd issue. Other issues in the -11 kernel prevent me from keeping it on
the system (Broadcom STA and fglrx drivers not working). As a result, I'll have

On my system using 2.6.7-11 successfully got past the hang.
It's a Toshiba laptop (P305D-S8828), RM-70 proc. Previously, system
would consistently hang at starting powernowd. Changing "Dynamic CPU
Frequency Mode" in the BIOS to "Always Low" was the only way to get a
successful boot.

Can you test the 2.6.27-11 kernel that is in intrepid-proposed. It
contains quite a few stable patches from upstream. I just want to
confirm you'll still be able to reproduce this issue with that newer
kernel. To test this kernel do the following:
1) cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
2) cre
