It is not true that hardy won't work with Global Menu. The Global Menu applet makes use of gnome-settings-daemon to allow the user to load/unload the Global menu gtk module on the fly. Hardy uses gnome 2.22 or earlier when gnome-settings-daemon didn't implement this feature. Therefore the hardy
