I thought this problem was resolved for me by simply doing a fresh
install, however this does not appear to be the case. I found another

duplicate of #262974. It was caused by dkms, which contains a call to
"udevadm trigger", which causes the kernel to resend udev events for all
hardware, including network interfaces, which hal then dutifully adds
(again!) to its

I can't find any way to get rid of the duplicate connections seen by
network manager. I tried killing everything on my system with
[Nn]etwork[Mm]anager or nm in the name, restarting networking and
restarting network manager and the panel applet. No go. Strange.
