Alright, I'm back. I had to reinstall 8.10.
Before I reinstalled: I disabled the PPAs, downgraded the packages,
added the crimsun PPA, upgraded, no change. Removed the PPA and
downgraded again. Added the themuso PPA, upgraded, no change.
Rebooted. Then I couldn't login. I do not recall the e
(though it shouldnt be a big problem doing both at once ... its just
that that was the idea :))

first upgrade with:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/crimsun/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/crimsun/ubuntu intrepid main
..
if that doesnt help downgrade the upgraded packages from above and upgrade
using:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ubunt

1. renamed .asoundrc and .ascoundrc.asoundconf to .asoundrc.backup and

2. verified I have the libasound2-plugins package installed
3. added the following repositories using syn

Please never ever install libflashsupport ... that thing is evil. we
removed it from the archive by _intention_

I have libasound2-plugins already installed. I tried reinstalling and
rebooting but had the same behavior.
I tried an old deb of libflashsupport I found from here:

this package is no longer necessary with 8.10. See this bug:

Since I used the Update Manager to upgrade to 8.10 I am guessing it

Hello,
have you tried to install the "audio lib package for Flash" ? (with synaptic)
I remember this library is not automatically installed with "flash-nonfree"
package.
It fixed my problem with flash and audio under 8.04 LTS...
