I now get a new unrelated problem in Jaunty with gedit see bug #346293.
In Intrepid I still get the error still with 2.6.27-11 kernel (latest updates
today installed). Sebastien, you were correct in assuming that there was a
missing directory. In my /root/.gnome2 directory there is no gedit dire
closing since that works in jaunty

In Jaunty kernel Linux kevin-dt1b 2.6.28-11-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Wed
Mar 18 21:55:34 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux this error does not occur at
all. I haven't needed to make any new directories. I'll recheck in
Intrepid to see if the error has been fixed.

If I try the same now with kernel 2.6.27-11 64 bit I get a different error. The
method has changed very slightly as there is a new button displayed when I
preview the document to be printed. If I click on Close Preview and then close
gedit I get either of the following messages:
$ gksudo gedit /
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
