Hi!
I would like to reopen this bug because I have just encountered the phenomenon
as described in the bug title and the description under it.
"Steps to repeat:
1. Attach external media
2. Receive external media mount error described above
3. Leaving first media device attached, attempt to attach
This is still an issue, and I am running Intrepid.

assumed gvfs-hal-volume-monitor had replaced it. Is that incorrect?

One clarification: in the linked instructions, am I correct in assuming
that gvfs-hal-volume-monitor? I ask because I can't complete step 2
because I have no running gnome-volume-manager:
