I purged and reinstalled nvidia-glx-new as directed, and now the
resolution is correct again. Thanks for all the help! Sorry it took so
long for me to get back to this.

I'm not sure if it got modified during bootup or not; previously when I
got the 'low resolution' dialog and ended up with 800x600 (like this

the Driver "nvidia" line in there. On reboot I got the low resolution
dialog again, so I recreated the various debug files. The nvidia driver
is still MIA from the Hardware Drivers window in -19. I created new

I rebooted into -19 to try to reproduce the problem, without the added
complication of an external monitor. I again got the "ubuntu is running
at low resolution" dialog (or something like that). Ubuntu came up in
800x600. Then I reread your comment, deleted my xorg.conf and rebooted
into -19 ag
