Unfortunately I can't reproduce the bug any more.
Couple days after I submitted the bug, everything started working as expected.
Last couple of weeks there were quite a few kernel/gnome/nvidia updates, that
might have fixed the bug.
I'll close the bug for now - will reopen if I'll notice smth f

Could you please test if turning off desktop effects fixes the issue
(Preferences/Apperance/Visual Effects)? I don't think this is a bug in
compiz itself, just something that compiz triggers. Could you please add
the last few lines from ~/.xsession-errors and dmesg after
