Unfortunately I can't reproduce the bug any more. Couple days after I submitted the bug, everything started working as expected. Last couple of weeks there were quite a few kernel/gnome/nvidia updates, that might have fixed the bug. I'll close the bug for now - will reopen if I'll notice smth fishy.
