Tracked down the cause to this to the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules. With the upgrade to Hardy and a new kernel my DVD drive moved from pci-:00:04.0-ide-0:0 to pci-:00:04.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 so new rules was created. Removing /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules and reboot will
