This problem happens to appear and disappear without any obvious reason.
I don't believe it has anything to do with the Lightning add-on, I have
encountered this bug several times despite the fact I have never had
this particular add-on. This problem happened some more times but
disappeared itself
Update: I noticed that even though I had clicked each add-on's "Disable"
button and restarted Thunderbird, the Lightning add-on remained active.
After again disabling all add-ons and rebooting (when in doubt, reboot),
Thunderbird now appears to behave normally. Go figure.

I am unable to reproduce with IMAP nor POP at this time i tried IMAP on pop
