also if installing the 6.6 after running the update you are prompted
to execute 7.4 as
##the system is up to date
## a new distribution 7.4 is availabe
##would you like to upgrade?

there was not a typo i see your point the only problem for me at this
time is
cannot regonize the optical burn drive in x
resulting i cannot burn a iso
my solution may be loading up gnome or kde to this end

I notice that you are attempting to upgrade from 6.06 to 7.04. Is that
deliberate or is that a typo? Upgrading from 6.06 to 7.04 is not
supported because it skips the 6.10 release. Upgrading from 6.06
directly to 8.04 (Hardy heron) is supported as described here
