This issue only happens with some of my video files and the issue seems to be with VLC's "Hardware-acclerated decoding" setting. When that is set to either Automatic or VDPAU, those files always cause VLC to need to be killed. When set to Disabled or either of the VAAPI, VLC behaves correctly. At
