This issue only happens with some of my video files and the issue seems
to be with VLC's "Hardware-acclerated decoding" setting. When that is
set to either Automatic or VDPAU, those files always cause VLC to need
to be killed. When set to Disabled or either of the VAAPI, VLC behaves
correctly.

At this point, I'm not sure how to debug further. I can't get VLC to
emit any useful messages. Some of the docs for other distros is saying
VDPAU only works well with NVIDIA hardware. I don't have any, so I might
purge those packages if they cause other problems.
