Given the rework of NetworkManager and nm-applet in later releases, the
best I can offer is that this was fixed by no longer displaying a
different signal "bar"; just the icons should be matching appropriately.
I'll close this bug an Fix Released now since there is nothing more I

Difference in reported signal strength with network monitor applet
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178883
I'm running Intrepid Ibex, with proposed and backports enabled.
The list of the nm-applet shows much lower signal strength (the bar in the list
shows about 20%-25%), but the balloon of the systray shows 52% (it is not
constant). See the attachment.

Problem is still with the current test Jaunty--unless I run a "pure" N
network--then both read 100%--I guess due to signal strength being so
high that NM can't report less.Looks like the signal strength report
needs to be retested for N networks. If I run a "mixed" network, NM
reports around 70

I am running Intrepid (released version) with all the updates and the
nm-applet shows 14% signal strength and the Network monitor shows
average value of 59% signal strength, which is in good agreement with
the Vista (dual boot) value. Based on the performance I would say that
the network monitor

wireless networks in networkmanager.
once i connect to a network, it shows the signal strength correcty in systray

network monitor obviously reports the correct value (same as in systray)

Same here:
Network Manager reads 28%, and Network Monitor shows ath0 at 65%.
Behavior/speed-wise, the 65% number seems more accurate.
OS: Up-to-date Hardy, running an Atheros AR5416 802.11abgn pci card.
Wonder if this behavior is consistent regardless of hardware -- I'm
running a dated Compaq Arm
Just a update--this is still happening in the current testing Ibex--
Network Monitor Applet reports 80% while the current version of nm-
applet reports 51%. Looks like the metrics have not changed.

Greetings!!
The screenshot is included, but it seems to be unable to include the
balloon from Network Managerat the moment of screen capture the
balloon was reporting 35%. As far as the kernel--is stock issue--no
mods. Output from Iwconfig:

Hi Dean
could you please include a screenshot showing this issue in action, and also
the output of iwconfig command, you're using the kernel module shipped with
Ubuntu right?
Thanks

Hi Basilio--
Just removed all traces of NM 0.7 & reinstalled NM 0.6.6 in my main
system--fully updated Hardy--reports same as the Beta disc--30%
difference between the two--Is there anything else you need to know that
I haven't reported yet?
Cheers!!

Booted beta 8.04---no change in reported strengths--Network Manager
reports 47% & Network Monitor Applet reports 77%Same as NM 0.7 &
associated applet report. Using a D-Link DWL-G520/driver ath0.
Interesting that it stays exactly 30% between the two.
Cheers!!
