I still don't understand this change. I find it truly unworthy. GNOME
applications are not-branded from the beginning. Now GNOME Software
broke USC with the icon. What was wrong with the icon of GNOME
Software?! Can't users really adapt to the new docs about the new
Software store?! Users are not t
We also had to make changes in The Ubuntu Manual, http://ubuntu-manual.org/
After updating Xenial in VirtualBox, I now have two identical icons on the
Launcher: one for gnome-software and one for Ubuntu Software Center, which I
had installed in Xenial because I find USC much better than gnome-sof
Everything as expected. Thanks for turning this around so quickly.

Honestly, this pisses me off. This breakage is even categorized as being
of “Critical” importance, which is plain ridiculous.

Per the above (somewhat confusing) comment, the decision has been made
for the Ubuntu product that it's more important to get this name change
done from day 1 even at the possible cost of outdated translations and
inaccurate docs, in part because of the importance of consistency with

Hello Will, or anyone else affected,
Accepted gnome-software into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

** Description changed:
We would like to change some strings in GNOME's Software application to
"Ubuntu Software".
The main reason is that our users are used to the old Ubuntu Software
Center and many docs talk about it. By changing the name to Ubuntu
Software we can offer some assur
There was a change needed in Ubiquity as well, and that has been done.
It was actually a revert, so translations were already done.

FWIW, I mostly agree with #4 and #5, but if this is to go ahead then I
concur with Steve that SRU is more appropriate.
There will most definitely be further updates for gnome-software before
16.04.1; the string change can go in before then. This gives time to
both translators and the documentation

In summary, I think this change is not worth the effort and it's already
too late in the cycle for translations.

As a long time Ubuntu user, I don't mind the name GNOME Software. The
application name already appears as only "Software" (like the rest of GNOME
applications, Nautilus is "Files", gnome-disk-utility is "Disks" and so on)
I don't see a reason to rename it to Ubuntu Software. A lot of online news
The desktop guide was changed to consistently use "Software" only. :(

Have discussed this with Will and Seb on IRC. The plan for avoiding
disruption of the GNOME experience (since the GNOME desktop depends on
the same package) is to use OnlyShowIn=Unity for the different name,
which sounds like a reasonable plan.
The biggest problem is that we are past translation
