You are correct: When using gnome with compiz no borders are drawn. I attached
a screenshot from a kde desktop without compiz -> Same bug.
The window is moveable but that does not render it usable. You have to move it
about 5 screens to see the other end.

i can NOT confirm the behavior on my gutsy install with nvidia-glx and
1280x800 resolution.
i installed via synaptics and then created a new account via the wizard
which led me to the registration website.
p.s. if you hold the alt key you can move the window with your mouse.
