titlebars fully disappearing because of the decorator crashing on

Yes, a similar issue has cropped up again in 11.04. I haven't yet
figured out what kills the decorator, but it disappears spontaneously
(perhaps after suspend/resume?) and can be recovered with "gtk-window-
decorator --replace" as mentioned by Bryce.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
I've 'upgraded' with the GTT Incoherency Patch since video kept
crashing, but now I'm randomly gett
My Ubuntu doesn't seem to have the windows decorator. I've looked
through everything and haven't found any solution. I'm running on Ubuntu
8.04 - the Hardy Heron. Is there anything else i can try?

This happens to me occasionally while quickly using Compiz's expo and
scale features. Right clicking on the compiz icon (I installed it) and
selected Reload Window Manager fixes it.

Ok guys this is pretty strange what i found out, i had about the same
problem but disableling extra effects fixed it for 50%, what i also
found out is that if u have extra effects on that Wine programs go crazy
when i tried to start Guild Wars with extra effect then u cant see it it
runs on the bac

It's been happening quite often during the last few weeks (maybe firefox 3 beta
4 & 5 ?), not making anything "weird" like Alt+TAB... ;o)

The KDE problem is known (and fixed in hardy), the nvidia users are
having troubles because their configuration is wrong, what we're looking
for here are people using GNOME/gtk-window-decorator and having this
problem.

The instructions included in the link not only show you how to ensure
you have the latest driver. It also has xorg.conf changes/additions.
In my case, the latter is what made the difference since i already had
the latest driver installed.

Same problem. AMD64, running 7.10 with an Nvidia card. When I select
"NONE" visual effect, title bars come back. If I go back to Normal or
Extra, they disappear again.
Other solutions suggested do not help.

I just wanted to add how I fixed this...it may not work for everyone,
but this is kind of how my problem cropped up and then how I fixed it.
1. I installed the Advanced Compiz Desktop Effects, because I didn't have
multiple desktops and wasn't sure how to get them back otherwise.

I can confirm this happens not only in the beta and RC, but also in the
FINAL 7.10 "Gutsy" version of Ubuntu. In my case it happens when doing
Alt+Tab several times, similarly to Dave's case. This is an important
bug, since thing like these put off novice Ubuntu users.

Same problem here. (KDE / Compiz with latest update)
I can add that I must always right-click on the desktop and make a window
appear before Kicker appears to the screen, but when a popup menu covers the
kicker window, then the kicker window disappears.

apparently, it wasn't installed.
so after installing it via the terminal "sudo apt-get install compiz-gnome"
I now have fancy windows, with the titlebars.
although, I would have thought when upgrading from feisty to the beta
gibbon, that it would have installed it then.
Is gtk-window-decorator running? The screenshot looks like there is no
window manager running at all.

I'm not sure if my Bug #150032 is exactly the same as this, as when I restart
X, it doesn't fix the problem. the windows still have no titlebar.
