After booting from the 7.10 beta live CD, I see the desktop, but no
panels come up at all (even after clicking the desktop as others have
mentioned). Ctrl-Alt+Backspace logs out and logs back in automatically,

I have the same issue on AMD64 Gutsy beta as of Oct-7-2007.
Hardware:
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS w/ 319MB
Intel T7500
2GB RAM
As stated, running 64 bit Gutsy beta w/ nvidia-glx-new drivers from
gutsy repository.

Since this may be related to using Compiz Fusion, this was a bug with
Beryl back in the day (at least a year ago?). Then, for me, it was the
top panel. I had to restart gnome-panel to get it back. Maybe the

Same here, when I log in I have to click the desktop to make the bottom
panel appear. Gutsy compiz fusion, no tweaks or anyhting, default ubuntu
theme ect..

I'm experiencing the same issue, but with the bottom edge panel (show
desktop button, workspace, and trash applet) on Gutsy and Gnome 2.20. On
login the panel is invisible and I have to click on it or anywhere
