It also helps to remove "splash" from the kernel line (for example in
/etc/default/grub and rerun update-grub). Then you lose the splash screen but
can normally enter the password.
That's ofcourse just a workaround, since the splash screen is kind of integral
to the user experience imho. Without
I did an installation from scratch, same issue, however, I don't see any
echoed text on the side...
Some other differences which probably are not related to the issue, I
use AMD graphic card with fglrx-updates.
My workaround is to CTRL-ALT-DEL, wait the system to boot again, press
enter to procee

Since I've encoutered that bug, I have changed two lines in /etc/default/grub:
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 -> GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1280x800 -> GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep
Now the typed text isn't echoed on the side of the screen anymore, but I
still can't enter my password.
