Same Problem on Intrepid!
Default the wrong printer is selected: HL-2060 Foomatic/hpijs
This causes very slow printing, because the printer pauses after each
page.
Switching to Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hl1250 solves the problem.

Tested on Hardy. The default Brother HL 2060 Foomatic/hl 1250 en
(recommended) driver works great.
The problem is SOLVED for Hardy.

I think the problem is solved for now.

I tested the Gusty packages and it works fine.
Needs more testing for Hardy, though.

I just rechecked, the printing jobs get sent to cups and listed.
still cups says it can't connect it, on usb:/dev/usb/lp0
lsusb however says it is connected

i have the same problem,
tried to install driver from brother like stated in this thread

cups then listed the printer and I could send printing jobs to the printer,
however it stated, it can't connect to it.
now I tried to change the driver to Bro
system-config-printer (0.7.75+svn1628-0ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

o Convert floating point values to strings in a locale-safe manner
(Fixes LP: #145693)
o Let entry for the raw queue appear under the "Generic" printers.

I have the same problem in Gutsy updated as of 2007-09-09.
Changing the default driver to "Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hl1250" solves
the problem.

Pascal, this has nothing to do with AppArmor blocking Brother's drivers.
It is a wrong decision between two drivers included in Gutsy. These
decisions are done by foomatic-db and system-config-printer, and they
are independent on whether the actual AppArmor configuration blocks the
driver or not.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
Ubuntu Gutsy comes with AppArmor, which prevents the Brother drivers to work
with CUPS
