i have the same problem, tried to install driver from brother like stated in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=123539 cups then listed the printer and I could send printing jobs to the printer, however it stated, it can't connect to it.
now I tried to change the driver to Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hl1250, what I had on Feisty and worked fine.
