Ok, this bug can be closed. Rebooting the router and the cable modem
solved the problem, now I get valid IP addresses on both of our desktop

This is probably a dhclient bug. I got this same issue after an upgrade
roughly at the same date. DHCP cannot get an ip for neither the wireless
or wired adapter, but when I set up the wireless adapter with a

The network adapter in my laptop is a Broadcom chipset.

An additional information regarding this bug: the LED indicators of the
Ralink wireless cards do not light up anymore, neither during booting,
nor after login into the desktop.

I have further investigated, whether the updated kernel is at fault for
my loss of wireless. Instead of the new 2.6.20-16-generic kernel, I
booted with following older kernels (via the grub menu list), that all
used to work:
2.6.20-15-generic
2.6.20-11-generic
2.6.20-10-generic
However, none of t

(the person in question is on Dapper, but uses also a Ralink wireless
