Works absolutely OK for me after I rebooted, killed KDM which was
running but showing nothing and then apt-get upgrade'ing. Maybe it works
from the cli, try that, but kill KDM first.

After reboot KDM refused to start.
I fixed the problem by running dselect from the commandline:
First select option 4 to fix any leftover configurations.
Then select option 3 to (re)install kdm, or any other package that still had to
get upgraded.
What puzzles me is that the system now states I ha
Tried a second run (without reboot) to get kdm properly installed.
I get the following messages in the terminal:

Will try again after reboot.
All other package upgraded fine.
