TEST CASE: versions of postinst/postrm hooks prior to lum 14.38 called
depmod with the '-A' option which only looks at modules newer then
modules.dep. If you have installed or removed packages in just the right
order you can create a modules.dep that does not correctly describe the
module relations

The secret it installing linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-386.
After installing Gutsy, things worked fine with the 2.6.22-14-generic
kernel, but in the -386 kernal, ipw3945 was enabled but not "in use."
Loading the above package solved the problem.

installed when upgrading. I installed it manually, to see if that fixes

This is a critical bug, I won't be able to use wireless ipw3945 with
gutsy. The latest update to 2.6.22-14 doesn't bring the ipw3945.ko
module.

And now I just checked that -generic 2.6.22.13 works as well, to this
issue seems to be specific to -386 in my case (in much the same way it’s
specific to -rt for Jon-o Addleman).

I ran into the same issue on my ThinkPad X60. Both -386 and -generic
2.6.22.12 work, -386 2.6.22.13 doesn’t. All of the relevant linux-
restricted-modules{,-386,-generic} installed in 2.6.22.13 versions.

Booting with 2.6.22-12-generic I have no problems. With
2.6.22-13-generic the ipw3945 driver just doesn't load. locate tells me
there are different files installed for these two kernel builds. It
seems like the ipw3945.ko is missing from the 2.6.22-13 build, together
with the firmware ipw3945.ucode

I'm noticing something similar, but it's only happening with the rt
(realtime) kernel. I have these packages installed:
ii linux-image-2.6.22-11-generic 2.6.22-11.33Linux kernel
image for version 2.6.22 on x86
ii linux-image-2.6.22-11-rt 2.6.22-11.33Linux
Since there are no news, and I have my wireless working (I can't
backtrace), I will change the status of this bug. If someone disagree
with me, feel free to change.

Today, after a 3th reboot, everything works!!! I really sorry, but I don't know
what fix it, because I didn't apply any update.
My grub is fine, boot up the same kernel as before.
The only difference is that i have installed the restricted-manager package and
installed alsa-drivers (from source
on HP DV 2220txsame thing happened after the update
along with WIFI i even lost Sound Card.

i had a similar problem. the problem was that grub was booting a
2.6.22-10-i386 kernel instead of 2.6.22-10-generic. selecting the
generic kernel on startup fixed the problem for me...
