Since no answer has been found, I went elsewhere, in fact to the support
people at "System76.com" There after talking about my problem the
gentleman suggested that my problem might be in the /home directory
which I had carefully preserved each time an installation was done. So
I reunstalled 14.04L
I tried to get this file, but VT says "No such file or diretory: and
because I do not have launcher or panel I cannot display the "hidden
files" in/home.

I am not able to attach $HOME/.cache/upstart/gnome-session-Unity.log so

I do not have the system available at all, when last I started from an
external dvd, (12.10) the main screen remained blank, no further acces
exisited, thus no way of providing any more info. Please note that in
earlier posts I indicated that I tried different monitors, all to no
avail as well.
This is a symptom of the compiz program not running for some reason,
likely due to a local (user-specific) configuration issue.
We're going to need a littl e bit more information about your system
configuration. Please open a terminal (or, if not possible, switch to
an alternate VT using control-

Same issue exist for me as well, infact with others as well who upgraded
to ubuntu 14.04.
No launcher and panel after upgrade to ubuntu 14.04.
it looks Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is a buggy OS.
Please resolve this bug on priority.

I installed 12.10, this gave me liimited use of the system, in that
ctrl+alt+t gave me a terminal.
With that I should be able to provide some more info when provided with
the commands needed.
I also changed monitors, same problem.

Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch
To manage notifications about this
The affected system is a daily production machine. Maybe I was in error
to install a Beta, however on two other computers it is running well
enough to give me the confidence to install it here too. I was sadly
mistaken. Please help me.

I logged in as guest, and both panel and launcher are present as well as
all applications. I cannot get to my hardrive partitions as I do not
have the required privileges as guest. I also as guest have Terminal
available, but sudo does not give me the privileges.
