FWIW, I have the same problem, and starting yelp from a command line and
doing the following gives some additional output.
STEPS:
start yelp from the command line
Click Adding and Removing Software
XML Garbage comes up
Command line output:
xmlXPathCompOpEval: function has-same-node not found
XPat

not sure if the bug is in the packages or in yelp.
