Thanks everyone for all your help. I was amazed at the speed you all
responded, which was far beyond my expectations.
I have reinstalled Ubuntu, and for some reason the issue has righted
itself without any more input from me (thankfully!). I think it may
have been just one of those quirky things
Thank you all very much for your fast responses! (I'm typing on my
Wife's laptop now - much faster!)
Unfortunately the above parameters haven't alleviated the issue. It
seems to be slightly better, but every third keystroke is lost still!
The keyboard in question: Labtec Wireless Desktop Edge
Ahh, sorry, one last thing:
Those steps I gave you, that's during the boot up. You have a 2-second
window to hit "esc". Then you should be able to run those commands.
So make sure to print off this page or write it down before you reboot.

1. hit 'esc' while Grub is loading (multiple times because you only have a 2
second window)
2. it should now show a list of kernels
3. find your newest kernel that doesn't say '(recovery mode)' and hit 'e' (for
edit) - usually at the very top
4. find the line that begins with 'kernel' and hit 'e'
Thanks guys. You will have to pardon my lack of info on this issue
(takes about 5 keystrokes for each letter...)
I am only new to Linux (about four hours! yay!), so I'm learning as I
go. Do I just add the parameter to the end of the kernel line in Grub?
(15 mins. to type that!) :)

I've had that happen before - it was a faulty keyboard. I'm not saying
it is in this case, but it would be worth a try to plug in a different
keyboard (if available).
What type of keyboard is it? USB, PS/2?
If you don't know what that means, is it a rectangular plug, or a
circular plug (usually p
You can add the parameters on the kernel boot line, e.g. in grub edit
the kernel boot line and add the param there.
