I've disabled pulseaudio because it has huge problems working with
VirtualBox and gone back to ALSA.
Is there an applet equivalent in the Karmic repos to provide volume
control using ALSA? I'm currently using gnome-alsamixer but it's big
and bulky.
I do hope PulseAudio will actually work properl
This should be fixed in Karmic through using Pulseaudio for all sound
settings.

Thank you for the response. Sound has worked perfectly for months now. I
think (but I'm not sure) that the sound problems occurred when I
installed Virtualbox. I've heard it's buggy for some people. After
removing it and doing all sorts of cleanup to get sound working again, I
have never tried
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I have created a script to work around this problem which is run on every
system start to change the four settings.
It only works with my Audigy2 and Intel sound card but it should be easy to
change the important parts.
