** Description changed:

call the Windows machine "winbox", and the file share name "winshare".
In Windows, I could simply press Start -> Run, then type this in and
"Run" it:
\\winbo

should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install ,
that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't
be addressed as part of the project.

I receive many e-mails with UNC names and I find it very VERY annoying
to have to "translate" them each time. They are clickable in Evolution,
but clicking on them fails because it's unsupported by Nautilus. The
same applies to external network links in OpenOffice documents.
This is a usability
I think a simple conversion from \\foo\bar to smb://foo/bar before
opening would suffice, although handling them internally would be
better.

The version of Konqueror in Feisty Fawn does do this UNC -> URI
conversion! Sweet! Come on nautilus, time to catch up ;)
The two feature requests above still stand (Nautilus converting UNC ->
URI, and Preferred Applications allowing konqueror of nautilus to spawn
and show UNC paths).
