The same problem with 14.04 on Lenovo T540p using NVIDIA. It seems if I
am using UltraDock with mouse and keyboard no issues however with
trackpad the coursor may freeze eventually and the only way to fix the
problem would be C-A-F1 and then back C-A-F7.

I have the Gigabyte U24-ti5. I may be wrong, but it seems to happen a
lot less when I'm using the mouse (which seems to automatically disable
the touchpad. Possibly touchpad related? Anybody else have an Elantech
Touchpad?

Same problem here and on 3 other laptops in my lab (2x thinkpad and 1x
macbook air).
My Macbook Pro 11.3 has Kernel 3.13. When the screen freezes, sound
(e.g., skype) still works and I can move the mouse but not click.
I 'solve' this by going to the terminal and restarting lightdm:
'sudo service
For me, I found it's gnome-shell freeze everything. I just Ctrl+F1 and
run "killall -9 gnome-shell", and Ctrl+F7 go back, everything works
again. I don't know where should I find the log.

I found that when I switched to GNOME my mouse worked but without a cursor,
I was able to overcome that problem with some instructions I found on the
WEB, also I could not load gmail on Chrome, I overcame that by disabling
the version spoofer extension I had to loaded for the Linus Silverlight

My laptop has 32 GB RAM. It froze and when I decided to switch it off
and held the power button for 1 sec, it magically unforze. htop was
opened at the time and showed that chrome consumed all of 32 GB of
memory. When I killed it, the memory came down to 400 Mb. I think this

Like many others, I have been getting random screen freezes since July
2013.
They are more frequent under 13.10, but I was also getting them under
13.04
I have a quad processor, and it seems that if one cpu approaches 100%, I am
much more likely to see a screen freeze. Some of the freezes clear

since upgrading from 13.04 the system seems to use less memory (as

That might be another problem... I've had nouveau blacklisted and
removed from the start (my machine couldn't even boot with nouveau
anywhere). I'm running nvidia-331 and still, very rarely, have the
problem.
I did just update to nvidia 331.20 today and haven't seen the problem

to the the consle to cleanly reboot. Had to do a hard kill.

same problem here after few minutes i start using a browser. I thought
it was zram related issue and upgraded the kernel to 3.12, but the
problem persists

I don't use Firefox as my standard browser, so I didn't notice it myself. When
other people use my computer, they have to use firefox, as I don't want them to
use 'my' browser (chromium). It only seems to happen when Firefox is in use and
I've seen it happening. It's quite annoying. Screen freez

Once I left my PC frozen for an hour, and no avail.

Sometimes the hang happens even while browsing within a Firefox window.
I saw the following in dmesg around the time of the problems. I tried
Ctl-Alt-F1/Ctl-Alt-F7 and the graphics screen hung (black screen with
