I have experienced this issue on a Gutsy machine. I have attached a ZIP
file of two TIFFs that cause it for me. I took a backtrace while it was
hanging and it appears to be happening while scaling the images into
thumbnails. This only happens when nautilus is set to "View as List";
"View as Icon
Sorry I have been too busy to update this earlier. Turns out my
notebook had a faulty hard disk causing it to create massive wait. This
was probably responsible for this issue among others., because I can't
reproduce it since the HDD was replaced. Just wanted to let you know.

and the debug output... just wouldn't give any details when I opened the
new folder about what functions were being called.. .if you can give any
pointers I might be able to get a better debug. strace gave me nothing
also.

yes it is nautilus using up most of the CPU%; see attached screenshot.
I attempted to debug, but there appeared to be no useful output. This

Thank you for your bug. I don't confirm that. Could you run gnome-
system-monitor and look what command is using the CPU when that happens?
Can you open the image correctly with the image viewer when clicking on
it?

I note that I have 1:2.18.1-0ubuntu1 version of nautilus installed
although this page indicates a newer version available, but no newer
version seems to be available in synaptic.
