upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would

It unfortunately appears that this bug is not yet resolved. Does this
issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the
Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is also scheduled for release today. It will
appear at the following when available:
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2 .
I came across this too, after I'd been fiddling with the sound controls. It
seems i'd just changed a setting in System > Preferences > Sound
All that is required is setting the "Device:" field to a "Playback:" or
"Capture:" device.

I've a similar bug on my Acer Aspire 5100 with my "HDA ATI SB" PCI
soundcard. I'm using Kubuntu.

I'm having a very similar problem. I just upgraded my laptop (a HP
Pavillion dv5000) from Feisty to Gutsy. It has three keys above the
keyboard to control sound (up, down, and mute). Clicking the buttons
doesn't affect the volume of the sound coming out of the speakers.

I am using Ubuntu 7.04 with GNOME. To adjust my volume, I was using the
gnome Volume Control: HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer) which I opened by double
clicking on the volume icon on the top panel which was right beside the
clock.
