I just checked again, here it works. the only difference is that I have
the /usr/local/rsi/lib path at the end of LD_LIBRARY_PATH. i don't think
that this makes a difference.

The above workaround didn't work for me; I still get the segfault.

I think it is better to just extract the libX11.so.6.2.0 file from the
Debian package

mentioned inthe ITT Tech Tip #4177 and add a LD_LIBRARY_PATH
modification pointing to that file for IDL only. Th
finally! it worked.
i downloaded the DEB package indicated in ITT Visual Information Solutions Tech
Tip #4177
forced the installation, and now IDL can display graphs.

Hi, Same problem here. I tried the walkarounds proposed in the ITT Visual
Information Solutions Tech Tip #4177,
but they did not work for me. So downgrading seems to be the solution. I do not
know how to do that though,
do you have a procedure (apt-get command line) to go back to a libx11 versio
If trying to downgrade the lib is the only way what is th procedure as I tried
this and it depends on an older version of x11-common.
Do you have a complete procedure for this work around ?

I don't expect an update to IDL anytime soon, and downgrading (which we
already have done to keep the science users running) implies that nobody
can browse securely anymore, as far as I understand the bug.

You should really ask for a update to IDL, but in the meantime you can
force downgrade to the previous version of libx11.
