Notification is now done with update-notifier-kde.
It'd be nice to use KNotify for update notifications rather than the ugly
balloon thing it uses at the moment, especially with the upcoming KNofiy
plasmoid.

Yes, it shows an icon in the system tray, but my idea is that a
notification popup message should appear on screen, and of course this
behaviour would be customizable through the system notifies module in
kcontrol or systemsettings, the same way as knetworkmanager does, for
example.

I'm not sure what you're looking for beyond the current functionality.
adept_updater already shows an icon in the system tray when there are
updates available. I'll add it to the wishlist, the developers might
decide to add it or they might decide the current functionality is
enough
