For me the simple reason for the phenomena depicted at the very
beginning of this thread was that I hampered my /etc/fstab before
restart, as I realized later. To cure the problem it was necessary to
check the UUID's of the hard drives with the blkid command and rewrite
fstab using a Live CD.

Hi!
I would like to reopen this bug because I have just encountered the phenomenon
as described in the bug title and the description under it.
"Steps to repeat:
1. Attach external media
2. Receive external media mount error described above
3. Leaving first media device attached, attempt to attach
I googled it out and found a brutal but working way for my Intel 965
graphic chip which was really attached to the blacklist:
