i installed, reinstalled, and tried several version releases including
latest beta. can't remember which silly name it's called. anyhow i gave up.
it's gotta be a hardware dependent problem. in fact i got so tired of
fighting wireless driver problem i paid twenty bucks to linuxtant for a
solution.

okay, i'll get on it. it'll be a few days because one of my processors
fried and corrupted data. there are two new cpus in the mail. the problem
occurs on seperate asus p2b-ds mobos. maybe i'll try using just one cpu.

could be. i thought of a clue for you. when i installed skype from
their web page it seemed to go okay. however when it didn't work then
i tried to remove the thing. it did NOT show up in the list of apps in
the synaptic package mgr. so then
i went to the medinuntu page and re-installed us
i used the synaptic gizmo and found that alsa thingie is aleady installed.
how's that for techno talk?
