I think I found a solution but not sure if it's the "right" thing to do
so maybe experts can comment?
You need to modify the pip file: sudo vim /usr/bin/pip3
The original code is:
from pip import main
if __name__ == '__main__':
sys.exit(main())
Need to change to:
from pip import __main__

This affects me too. When running Update Manager manually, icon works
normally. When Update Manager auto-updates, it does not respond to left-
click to open Update Manager. I then have to terminate update-manager
and restart it manually.

I've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.10 and too find it sometimes extremely
slow and unresponsive. Sometimes it kinda freezes although the hard-disk
light flashes.This normally happens if I switch apps or open a new app
etc. It's almost so bad I'm considering going back to 10.04.

Unfortunately this is still a bug.
To use pppoe over wifi, you need to run pppoeconfig as the NetworkManager does
not currently support it.
After running pppoeconfig and a reboot, it then causes NetworkManager to no
longer work.

My Fujitsu Lifebook S7020 does the same thing when resuming from
suspend. It does not do it all the time and the only pattern I can find
is that if I quickly log-in then it does not do it i.e. I use the
"blank" screen-saver with password protection on.

Hi, I too am experiencing random freezes on my Dell Dimension 2400 with
Intel 82845G/GL/GE Chipset. Once it freezes I can no longer move the
mouse or type on the keyboard. CapsLock and NumLock both stop working. I
can however SSH into the box fine. I don't see any erros in any of the
logs - nothin
I have updated the kernel from linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic to linux-
image-2.6.27-7-generic and the hotkey-setup does not seem to be an
issue. Unfortunately I have other issues (Gnome now not working) but
I'll log them under a new issue.

Ok, I solved part of my problem.
When I ran the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10, I selected remove "obselete packages
and it removed grub. So I ran:
apt-get install grub
and now inux-image-2.6.27-7-generic has been installed
But now Gnome does not run - I just get a blank screen.
